What about Edgar?
With Edgar Martinez having another great year, Mariner fans are left to ponder "what life will be like without Edgar?" Next year will most likely be Edgarless. I have heard many grumblings this year saying that edgar is way over the hill and the M's will not miss him at all. I myself belive that the M's will have a gaping hole in the DH spot. Edgar has been nothing but consistent over the last 14 years and even though he has slowed down the last couple of years he is still better than 75% of the players in the major leagues today. His On Base Percentage(OBP) is ranked 11th in the Majors this year at .413. Meaning that he is getting on base more consistantly than 95% of the players in the Major leagues. He also has great numbers this year with 22 home runs and 85 RBI's. He career batting average is 3.16 and he is still hitting over 3.00 this year. The Mariners will have a huge hole to fix next year and the true Seattle fans know what they will be losing. This is one of the BEST players over the last 14 years and still many people over look him. Watch out for him in the 2003 playoffs as he drives in runs and makes pitchers frustrated. But next year watch the Mariners struggle to try and fill his spot.
